MOXI V100 & V100-R: Strap-Based Freedom for Full-Body Motion Capture

MOXI V100 & V100-R: Strap-Based Freedom for Full-Body Motion Capture

The MOXI V100 is a one-size-fits-most, strap-based motion capture system designed for accurate full-body tracking without the limitations of traditional suits. Its counterpart, the V100-R, uses the same hardware but includes dedicated software for robotics and AI applications.

Full-Body Tracking with 15 IMU Sensors

Both the V100 and V100-R use a 15-IMU sensor configuration, consisting of:

  • 10 wired (in-body) IMU sensors integrated into the vest, arm straps, leg straps, and belt
  • 5 wireless IMU sensors attached to the head, hands, and feet

Fit, Wearability, and Hardware Design

The V100 is built around a breathable mesh vest, adjustable arm and leg straps, and a belt that houses the lower-body sensor hub. Users can wear normal clothing underneath while still achieving stable and accurate tracking.

The system consists of the following core components:

  • Upper Body Hub
Located inside the chest area of the vest
  • Lower Body Hub
Integrated into the belt, which also includes a side pocket for storing the Transponder
  • Arm Straps
Two adjustable straps (one per arm), each containing two wired IMU sensors.
  • Leg Straps
Two adjustable straps (one per leg), each containing two wired IMU sensors, similar to the arm straps but slightly larger

Simple and Intuitive Connections

The MOXI V100 is designed with a clear and logical connection layout.

For the upper body, the vest includes two built-in cable connectors on the upper sides. Each arm strap plugs directly into one of these connectors, linking the arm sensors to the upper body hub.

For the lower body, the belt also includes two cable connectors on its sides. Each leg strap plugs into the belt, connecting the leg sensors to the lower body hub.

Once all straps are connected, the system forms a complete full-body setup. Motion data flows from the upper and lower hubs to the Transponder, which then transmits the data wirelessly to the computer.

Both hubs connect to the Transponder using two dedicated cables, one from each hub.

Wireless, Lightweight, and Mobile

The Transponder manages wireless data transmission and system coordination:

  • Weight: 75 grams, light enough to stay unnoticed during movement
  • Battery life: Up to 4.5 hours of continuous use
  • Setup: Easily configured using the TransEZ smartphone app (iOS and Android)

V100-R: Motion Capture for Robotics and AI

While the V100 is versatile for creative and academic uses, the V100-R targets the robotics and AI community. Using the same hardware foundation, the V100-R includes software designed for robotic simulation, URDF integration, and real-time data streaming on Isaac Sim.

Getting Started

  1. Wear the training vest and belt
  2. Attach the arm and leg straps and connect them to the vest and belt
  3. Ensure the upper and lower hubs are properly aligned
  4. Connect both hubs to the Transponder
  5. Configure the Transponder using the TransEZ app
  6. Attach and secure the wireless sensors
  7. Start motion capture with MOXI software

Final Thoughts

The MOXI V100 and V100-R are built for flexibility, comfort, and accuracy. Their strap-based design, wireless workflow, and adaptable software make them suitable for a wide range of use cases, from animation and research to robotics and AI development.
