How to Upgrade Your MOXI Motion Capture System: Hubs, Transponder, and Wireless Sensors

How to Upgrade Your MOXI Motion Capture System: Hubs, Transponder, and Wireless Sensors

No matter if you’re using the S100 or V100/V100-R, keeping your MOXI system updated ensures you benefit from the latest features, improved stability, and optimal performance. Firmware updates can be performed using MOXI software, either MOXI Player or MOXI Vista, depending on your workflow. For consistency, this guide will use MOXI Player for all instructions and covers the update process for:

  • Upper and lower body sensor hubs

  • Transponder

  • Wireless sensors

Updating the Upper and Lower Body Hubs

Both the upper body (vest) and lower body (pants or belt) hubs require firmware updates through MOXI Player. The process is almost identical for each hub.

Upper Body Hub (Vest) Update

  1. Connect the upper body sensor hub to your PC using a Micro USB cable (use the included spare cable for proper data transfer).

  2. Open MOXI Player.

  3. Select USB instead of Wi-Fi.

  4. Load your avatar.

  5. Click Setup, confirm, and press Connect.

    • Only the upper body sensor light should be on at this stage.

  6. Click Device Information.

  7. Hover over Upper Body – Firmware Version and click Update x2 to begin the update.

  8. Once completed, press Done.

  9. After the update is complete, unplug the spare Micro USB and reconnect the suit’s original cable that links to the Transponder.

Lower Body Hub (Pants/Belt) Update

  1. Connect the lower body sensor hub to your PC via the Micro USB cable.

  2. Open MOXI Player.

  3. Select USB instead of Wi-Fi.

  4. Load your avatar.

  5. Click Setup, confirm, and press Connect.

    • Only the lower body sensor light should be on.

  6. Click Device Information.

  7. Hover over Lower Body – Firmware Version and click Update x2.

  8. Press Done after the update finishes.

  9. Unplug the spare Micro USB and reconnect the original cable.

Notes for Hub Updates

  • For V100 & V100-R Strap Suits: When updating the hubs, ensure the arms are connected to the vest and the leg straps are connected to the belt.

  • The Transponder does not need to be connected during hub updates.

  • Ensure you use the included spare Micro USB cable, as some cables only provide charging and do not transfer data.

  • After each hub completes the update, the connection (in MOXI Player) will automatically disconnect. Repeat the steps for the other hub.

Updating the Transponder

The Transponder firmware has two distinct update requirements:

  1. Through MOXI Player and a USB cable

  2. Through the TransEZ app (Wireless)

You do not always need to perform both updates. Only update via the one that has a newer firmware version. You can check for available updates by opening Device Information in MOXI Player.

  • If the update is listed for the wired connection (USB), follow the MOXI Player steps.

  • If the update is listed for Bluetooth, follow the TransEZ app-based steps.

#1: Using MOXI Player

If the Transponder was previously configured using TransEZ and you plan to use the same Wi-Fi and channel settings, no additional configuration is required. Simply:

  1. Turn on the Transponder and wait for the middle light to stabilize.

  2. Open MOXI Player and connect the Transponder.

  3. Click Device Information to see the current USB firmware version and the available update.

  4. Press Update.

  5. When prompted, connect the Transponder to your PC using its charging cable (middle port).

  6. Press Update again and wait for the process to finish.

  7. Once complete, press Done and unplug the Transponder.

  8. Turn off and then manually turn on the Transponder before using.

# 2: Using the TransEZ App

  1. Power on the Transponder. Wait for the middle light to become steady.

  2. Long-press the Settings button until the middle light blinks → Transponder enters search mode.

  3. Open the TransEZ app on your smartphone and tap the menu icon (☰).

  4. Select Device Firmware Update.

  5. Tap Update and confirm.

  6. When the update finishes, tap Done.

  7. The Transponder will power off automatically → turn it on manually again.

Updating Wireless Sensors Using the TransEZ App (No MOXI Player Required)

Wireless MOXI sensors can be updated directly through the TransEZ mobile app. Each sensor must be updated individually.

Steps:

  1. Power on the wireless sensor.

  2. Connect the sensor you want to update to a power source or PC using the charging USB cable.

  3. Open the TransEZ app and tap the menu icon (☰) in the top-left corner.

  4. Select “MOTi Firmware Update.”

  5. Choose the connected sensor from the list and tap “Confirm Update.”

  6. Wait for the update to complete, then tap “Close.”

  7. Disconnect the sensor and repeat the same steps for the remaining wireless sensors.

Final Thoughts

A well-maintained firmware setup supports reliable motion capture and reduces unexpected issues during use. Periodic updates are a simple but important part of owning a MOXI system.
